Freeware
~~~~~~~~
This program is freeware so feel free to use it.
Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Amiga Tech. started manufacturing the A1200 they fitted them with High Density disk
drives. This is clear from the fact that if one uses high density disks in these
computers one has to cover the extra hole(found on HD Disks) for them to work well.
However since Amiga High Density disk drives need to run at half the normal speed
in order to store 1.76Mb(which is the standard storage capacity of HD Disks on the
Amiga) on one HD Disk and since this needs extra circuitry to be done(which is not
present in Amiga Tech. A1200) then HD Disks could not be used on the A1200 internal
drive. However everyone knows that PC drives can store 1.44Mb on 1 HD Disk while
still spinning at normal speed, so why should`nt our Amiga do this?
This is in fact the purpose of this program to allow users of Amiga Tech. built Amigas
to store 1.44Mb of data on HD Disks without needing to buy any extra hardware.
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The installation is very easy, just copy the gcrdisk.device to your devs: drawer and
drag the HF0 icon into the devs/dosdrivers drawer. The new drive called HF0: will be
mounted automatically at every boot. For Floppy users they should make some space on
a copy of their WB disk and place these files in the drawers. Both files are very small
and they need only 9K of floppy or Hard Disk space.
Future Plans
~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the moment I have not yet made a mountlist for a PF0 device which should be able to
read PC data directly from PC HD Disks. If anyone has any ideas please let me know as
any help will be greatly appreciated.
